Telehealth FAQs

Simply put, telehealth is a healthcare appointment that doesn't happen at the doctor's office.  Telehealth care can be administered in many different ways - texting, voice calls, video calls, etc. Since veterinarians rely so heavily on visual cues to assess pets, we offer video calls. As part of what we offer, you will always receive a consultation with a veterinarian who will recommend what's best for your pet.

Telehealth appointments bring the doctor to you, meaning your pet can be assessed from the comfort of their own home. You and your pet get to avoid the stress of transportation and the time and cost traveling to and from the hospital. We also offer flexible scheduling to make it easier for you to get your pet the care they need.

You will always receive a consultation with a veterinarian who will recommend what's best for your pet based on the information they collect. Since the doctor can't actually touch you pet or collect samples, you may be asked to schedule a traditional followup appointment to complete a physical exam, laboratory testing, bloodwork, etc.

A physical exam is required for complete assessment of different symptoms including the detection of heart murmurs, assessment of the ear drum, thorough eye exams, swellings, lumps, abdominal pain, abdominal masses, orthopedic injuries, etc.

Telehealth appointments allow a veterinarian to help you assess your pet. Typically these are most helpful with minor ailments and non-emergencies including chronic conditions, new symptoms (acute care), and follow-up care.

Examples of chronic conditions: Flea allergies, Behavioral problems, skin issues such as rashes, obesity, arthritis, medication refills, nutritional advice, etc.

Acute or new symptoms can occur quickly, like when your dog wakes up with a limp they didn't have the day before. Additional examples: mild diarrhea or vomiting, insect bites, coughing, itching, etc.

If your pet has undergone surgery, you may be able to save time by scheduling telehealth follow-up visits. Your vet can observe your animal over video or you can check in by phone or through text with questions and concerns.

When should you schedule a telehealth appointment?

Telehealth appointments are ideal for pets who would do best being assessed from the comfort of their own home.

These appointments are suitable for minor ailments and non-emergencies including chronic conditions, new symptoms (acute care), and follow-up care.
